TEACHER SPOTLIGHT - SAGE HALES-HO

unnamed.jpg

We are so lucky to have Sage on our teaching staff. Her classes are accessible, gentle, and overall so wonderful. When we shut our doors in March, Sage maintained her teaching schedule from home and at first, I wondered if this would work. Sage's Friday night class has become one of the best-attended classes on the schedule.

We are so blessed to have Sage teach this frequently and I hope you can join her for a class soon.

Fun get to know Sage Questions:

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

San Antonio, TX to see my sister and her family.

What social/environmental issues are you most passionate about? What are ways yoga can help us make positive change?

I am passionate about breaking down the stigma around mental health and mental illness. I hope to help people use yoga to live with or work through their suffering, sadness, anxiety, or whatever it is that they wake up each day to face. Yoga can help us develop self-compassion and many other tools to enable us to live in each moment with more ease and grace.

Name something that you do daily (other than yoga) to care for yourself.

I get outside. I run most days or walk in my neighborhood or in the woods.

Do you drink a morning beverage and if so what is it?

Coffee. Lots.of.coffee.

Favorite 3 or 4 postures/movements/preps for postures.

Mountain because it is foundational and grounding. Half Moon because it's so fun to balance and shine out. Supported Bridge because of the opening and ease in being supported. And Pigeon because, well, just because.

More from Sage:

Sage began her yoga practice in 2003. Since then, her yoga mat has become a place of centering and refuge where she comes back to herself after life happens. Sage utilizes a flowing sequence to work and balance the physical, spiritual, and emotional bodies. Her teaching integrates movement, breath, and contemplative practice to help her students become more physically strong while cultivating the ability to observe thoughts and emotions. Ultimately, Sage is on a journey to be more in the present moment of each day and this is woven into each class she teaches.

Sage completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts in May 2007 and she is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. She received her LifeForce Yoga for Depression Certification from Amy Wientraub in July 2008 and her Prenatal Yoga Certification from Sarah Longacre in August 2010. Sage has also participated in workshops and continuing education with several esteemed yoga teachers such as Rolf Gates and Seane Corn. She is grateful to all of her teachers and students for sharing their wisdom and yoga practice with her.
